Stud Ewes & Lambs
In 2009 the Alma merinos have again demonstrated their high fertility despite the trying conditions.
The maiden ewes lambed at over 95% this season. This follows on from outstanding lambing results of 2006, 2007 and 2008. Despite the 2004 drought, the Stud ewes marked up to 120%, and many ewes that were joined late, after the worst of the drought, lambed over 200% in an 8-month period!
With lamb and mutton prices at near record prices, and surplus sheep prices predicted to be even higher this spring, high fertility is essential for profitable merino breeding in western NSW.
